🍼 New Video: Keeping Baby Rabbits Healthy
In this brand-new video, we share tips on how to keep your kits thriving, including an effective baby rabbit formula that’s helped us save precious lives.

👉5 essential tips to prevent baby rabbit losses
💡 True Story: Just a month ago, I found five lifeless kits in a kindling tote on top of the fur at just 30°F. I brought them inside, placed them on a heating pad, and covered them with fur. After a few minutes on
high and then switched to low, they started squeaking and wiggling—back to life! I kept them warm for an hour before returning them to the tote. It was a reminder of just how resilient baby rabbits can be with the right care.

Tip: If you’re planting again this year, remember to rotate crops for soil health and pest control. Switch from brassicas to peas, oats, or beans, and vice versa!

🌳 Why We Love Weeping Willows on the Homestead
We’ve been adding weeping willows around the rabbitry—not just for their beauty, but because they’re a powerhouse plant for rabbits and landowners alike. If you’re thinking about planting trees this spring, now’s the time to get your hands on a few!

👉 Weeping Willow Trees
Here’s why we’re big fans of weeping willows (Salix babylonica):
🌿 Great Rabbit Forage – Willow leaves and young twigs are safe and beneficial for rabbits. They’re naturally high in fiber and contain tannins that may support digestive health.
💧 Water-Loving Tree – Perfect for wetter areas of your property, willows help manage drainage and even support erosion control near water features or low spots.
🪵 Fast-Growing Biomass – Willows grow rapidly, making them great for future shade, windbreaks, or chop-and-drop mulch.
🍃 Medicinal Properties – Willow bark contains salicin, a natural pain reliever (related to aspirin). While bark use in
rabbits should be cautious, it’s
good for holistic homesteaders to know.
🐝 Bonus for Bees – Willows are an early source of nectar and pollen for honeybees and native pollinators in the spring.

🐝 Beekeeping: Splits, Swarms & Spring Prep
After a rough winter with high hive losses, we’re feeding pollen patties and prepping for splits. Timing is key—don’t split too early or you risk chilled brood.
👉 How to Make Pollen Patties
Tip: We wait until nighttime temps are consistently above 40°F before splitting our hives. Usually mid to late April in Michigan. Remember to have
your swarm traps hung by May 1st. If you’d like to see how to set them, tap the link.

🦌 Deer & Wildlife Habitat Updates
We’re mowing clover, hanging tree stands, and prepping watering holes while the ground is soft. Now’s the best time before poison ivy takes over.
🌿 Habitat Tip: Always place a branch in your watering holes so small critters can escape if they fall in. It’s a simple gesture that saves lives and keeps the water from getting contaminated.
