ABOUT US

At The Rabbitry Center, we are passionate about raising high-quality purebred New Zealand rabbits and helping others build successful backyard rabbitries of their own. We value New Zealand rabbits for their outstanding qualities, including their beauty, color variety, calm temperament, efficient meat production, cleanliness, and ability to produce nutrient-rich manure that benefits our gardens and growing systems.

While we do occasionally sell rabbits, our primary focus is education. We specialize in creating online courses and educational curriculum designed to help people around the world successfully raise rabbits, improve their rabbitry systems, and even build small businesses around their passion for rabbits. Through daily content creation and weekly free videos on YouTube, we strive to make rabbit education accessible to everyone. For those wanting to take their rabbitry to the next level, we also offer advanced step-by-step courses at affordable and competitive prices.

Beyond rabbits, our homestead lifestyle centers around producing food for both our family and our animals. We grow feed through raised beds, food plots, hedges, bushes, trees, and other natural systems that work together to create a sustainable environment. Our food plots not only help feed our rabbits, but they also attract Michigan whitetail deer every morning and evening. Each fall, we harvest a mature buck to help fill our freezer for the year. You can learn more about hunting free-range deer and self-sufficient living on Bobby’s Bucks YouTube Channel.

We also raise honeybees, which play an essential role on our property. Honeybees are fascinating creatures and the only insects in the world that produce food for humans. Their pollination efforts help support our orchard, gardens, food plots, and surrounding habitat. Watching their incredible work ethic and contribution to the ecosystem is something we deeply appreciate. To learn more about beekeeping and raising bees, visit Bobby’s Beez YouTube Channel.

At the heart of everything we do is a passion for education, self-reliance, and helping others create a lifestyle they truly enjoy.

Our Rabbitry

We take pride in raising healthy rabbits and providing high-quality breeding stock to our community.

Our rabbits receive fresh water every 12 hours and are fed a nutritious, high-quality pellet along with hay each day. We also supplement their diet with fresh herbs and vegetables that we grow ourselves—many of which we share inside our Feed Course.

Each rabbit is handled regularly and carefully inspected to ensure excellent health and temperament. We never wean our rabbits too early, allowing them to develop strong immune systems from the start. Raised outdoors, our rabbits are naturally acclimated to Michigan’s hot summers and cold winters.

On our property, we raise both rabbits and honeybees (Tap here for bee info). Using raised beds, food plots, trees, and hedges, we grow much of the feed that supports both our rabbits and our bees.

About New Zealand's

First off—they’re American.

Even though they’re called New Zealand rabbits, this is actually an American breed that originated in California. The breed was developed using Belgian Hares and Flemish Giants, with some stock imported from New Zealand.

Originally, New Zealands were bred to meet the demands of the meat and fur trade in the early 20th century, particularly following the Great Depression.

Today, they are known as a hardy and reliable breed. New Zealand rabbits typically live 7–10 years and weigh around 10–12 pounds. Bucks are generally smaller than does, and mature females develop a dewlap—a fold of fur under the chin. This dewlap stores fat that can be used as extra energy during pregnancy and lactation.

New Zealands are highly productive as a farm breed, but they are also calm, gentle, and make excellent companions. Despite their size, they are remarkably docile and easy to handle. They are intelligent animals that can be trained to perform simple tasks, such as coming when called or using a litter box. Many will even get along well with cats and dogs in a family setting.

New Zealand rabbits come in several colors, including red, white, black, blue, and broken. Sometimes, mixing colors can produce “steel” coats, which have a highlighted or peppered appearance. However, this color is not currently recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

Whether you’re looking to start breeding, raise rabbits for farming, or simply want a great pet, New Zealands are an excellent all-around choice. As an added bonus, they’re also a consistent source of high-quality fertilizer for your garden.
