Who doesn’t love summer time? If rabbits could talk, they’d tell you they don’t. They struggle when temperatures start rising. Rabbits are built for the cold but not the heat. Rabbits can’t sweat. They’re covered in fur and when temperatures climb into the 90’s(32.2C) this makes them vulnerable to heat stroke. For this reason it’s important to keep your rabbits in full shade 100% of the time. If they don’t get relief quick they could expire.
Some breeds do surprisingly well in the heat. Here’s a video discussing those breeds.
One way to keep your rabbits cool in the summer heat is to harness solar energy. You can run computer fans using solar panels and keep your rabbits comfortable for free. Here’s a step by step video showing how to set it up.
If at any point your rabbit doesn’t seem to respond or becomes lethargic and visibly stressed from the heat. Be sure to watch the video below to help your rabbit cool down immediately.
Below I’ll leave some links to the solar fans and panels I’ve used for years. Maybe your not interested in solar energy and just want to run regular A/C power out to your rabbitry. In that case I’ll include some fans that you can simply plug into your outside outlets.
